Update - September 2013

ODNA Update September 19, 2013 First, sad news. Longtime ODNA member Ken Ewing passed away August 31st. Ken was an active member participating in numerous clean ups and events. He also worked hard to keep the “Citizens On Patrol” program active in the ODNA footprint. A card on behalf of the association was sent to his wife, Barbara. In addition, ODNA will make a $50 donation to the American Cancer Society in Ken’s memory. Second, ODNA will be participating in the Family Fall Festival on October 26th from 10am to 3pm in Veterans Park. We will be hosting a craft table for kids, featuring “Make Your Own Paper Plate Jack-o-Lanterns.” As always, we need VOLUNTEERS to help at the craft table. We are looking to have at least two people at the table from 10am to 3pm. If you can give an hour, email me at bterjung1@juno.com if you can help. Next, ODNA will be cleaning up the Ship Streets on Saturday, November 2nd! We will gather in Friendship Circle at 8am for coffee and donuts, and then spread out into the neighborhood picking up trash. While walking through, we also be taking note of conditions in our neighborhood (things like broken sidewalks, clogged storm drains, etc.) that we can address and hopefully get fixed! VOLUNTEERS are needed to make our clean up a success! Whether you have an hour or have all day, we can use your help! Email me at bterjung1@juno.com, so I know who’s coming. Finally, our next meeting will be November 13th at 7pm in the Dundalk Community Center. For this meeting we will have updates on: * Dundalk Ave Road Destruction Construction project * What’s going on at the Village Center * And more . . . . . . We also hope to have a representative from One Voice Recovery Center come to tell us more about the center, their approach to recovery and their plans for giving back to the community. Our 2014 meeting dates are: January 8th March 12th May 14th July 9th Sept 10th Nov 12th

ODNA Update - Don't Trash Our Dundalk

Greetings Neighbors,

Now that you’ve had a moment to catch your breath after the best Superbowl EVER! It’s time to look ahead at the ODNA spring calendar. There’s a lot going on as the Don’t Trash Our Dundalk Campaign gets underway.

Besides cleaning up Dundalk and hopefully reducing the rat population, one of the goals of the Don’t Trash Our Dundalk campaign is to give, free of charge, metal trash cans to homeowners who need them. The initial grant will allow us, as well as, five other Dundalk neighborhood associations to purchase about 200 cans. When you consider all of Dundalk and all of the trash . . . . 200 cans will not go very far. To raise more money for this project, we are selling raffle tickets to win a Ray Lewis - signed NFL football! The drawing will be held at the Resource Fair on Saturday, April 13th (more info below). Tickets are 1 for $2; 3 for $5, and you do not have to be present at the fair to win. Please contact Glenn or Becky for tickets (our contact info is at the bottom of this email). They will also be sold in many local stores.
Now, looking at our calendar:

First up: We will be making our initial pass through the target area to distribute door hangers on Saturday, February 23rd. We are looking to start about 9am and will meet at the corner of Liberty Parkway and Broadship. The door hangers will introduce Don’t Trash Our Dundalk to our neighbors in our target area, bounded by Portship, Kinship Bayship, and Liberty Pkwy. This is not the door to door talk, just hanging the door fliers that contain a survey we want residents to complete and return to DRC.

Next: The next step in our focused efforts on our target area is the door to door campaign to further talk about RATS and the importance of proper trash disposal. We are planning our door to door outreach on Saturday, March 16th after the St. Patrick’s Day Parade (about 1-ish). The DRC will be providing some volunteers, but we need ODNA members!

Things to know about going door to door:
• No one will be alone! We will work in teams of two or three.
• We will have talking points and information to hand out.
• We will all be identified as ODNA members and community volunteers.
• The DRC is providing training on February 26th and March 2nd on how to approach homeowners. All volunteers are encouraged to attend.

We know that this in not an easy thing we’re asking of you folks, but if you can come out on March 16th please do! The more volunteers we have, the more teams we can send out. The more teams we send out, the fewer homes each team has to contact.

Then in April: As part of the Don't Trash Our Dundalk campaign, we will be conducting a clean up of Dundalk Ave and adjacent areas on Saturday, April 6th in cooperation with our neighboring community associations (St. Helena, DunLogan, Gray Manor, etc.). After the cleanup, lunch will be provided by Papa Johns and Chick Fil-A. We will meet at the St. Helena Community Center on Colgate Ave to greet the other association folks, grab some donuts and coffee, then get to work. (Time TBA, though it will probably be around 8am).

On Saturday, April 13th, the Don’t Trash Our Dundalk campaign is hosting a Resource Fair at the Sollers Point Multi-Purpose Center (323 Sollers Point Road) from 10am to 1pm. The fair will provide the opportunity to have code enforcement questions answered, proper trash disposal explained, learn about clean water volunteer opportunities, and meet neighborhood community associations. There will also be entertainment and food. We encourage all of our members to attend!

Lastly, on April 20th is the ODNA Dumpster Day! We will need a few volunteers to help coordinate and assist with the trash dumping.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of the events coming up, please contact Glenn Shaffer at glenn.shaffer@comcast.net or Becky Terjung at bterjung1@juno.com. Or call Glenn at 410-790-5685 or Becky at 410-288-3323.

We know you are busy, so any amount of time you can give is greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for all your help with this and everything else you've done throughout the years to help our association.

Sincerely,
Becky Terjung
ODNA President

BTW – our next meeting is set for Wednesday, March 13th at 7pm in the Dundalk Community Center. Hope to see you there.
